On 24 January 1992, a significant period came to an end: Dr. Hans-Kurt Boehlke (1925 - 2010), the founder of the Museum of Sepulchral Culture, started his last day of work - and one day later, on his 67th birthday, he went into well-deserved retirement. But this farewell was anything but ordinary: he used this day to open the museum - a cultural heritage that still plays an important role today and faces similar challenges as it did back then.
To honor the unforgettable connection between Hans-Kurt Boehlke and his life's work, the museum invites you to a special event that combines past and present. The founder of the museum will take center stage in a series of commemorative events. The current museum director, Dr. Dirk Pörschmann, will trace the development of the museum and take a look at the challenges facing the museum today.
Special guests who knew the museum and Boehlke's vision provide personal insights into times gone by: Hans Eichel, then Minister President, Wolfram Bremeier, then governing Lord Mayor, Dr. Horst Claussen, former employee in the Federal Ministry of the Interior (Department of Culture) and Dr. Jutta Schuchard, long-time curator of the museum, will recount their experiences in a lively memoir. The event will be moderated by Dr. Tibor Pézsa.
