Death Slam!

An event in cooperation with the FUNUS Foundation

The DeathSlam is a presentation competition in which self-written texts that deal with death are presented to an audience within a certain time. The audience chooses the winner of the competition through lively applause.

The first DeathSlam took place in Leipzig in 2016. After that, the slam made stops in Eberswalde, Halle (Saale), Berlin, Bremen, Leipzig again and in 2020 digitally on the web.

This year, the topic is the current exhibition. A topic that is usually not talked about so readily: Suicide!

Katja Hofmann

Katja Hofmann is a poetry slammer and presenter, she writes lyrics about love ... and hate!

The 34-year-old stage poet lives and studies in Halle an der Saale, where she organizes and hosts the literary series "Wörterspeise" and "Poeten gegen Sänger" - where she also likes to play with clichés. Since the beginning of 2009, however, she has been successfully touring poetry slam stages throughout Germany and neighboring countries, winning the hearts of her listeners with her impetuous, endearingly cheeky manner, which always shines through in both the content of her texts and her performance.

Katja Hofmann has hosted DeathSlam since 2017.

Lineup

Leticia Wahl

Leticia Wahl (1993*) from Kassel is an author, presenter, musician and travel poet, mainly in the context of slam poetry. In 2017 she graduated in Education and Psychology at Philipps University in Marburg.

She leads workshops, organizes and moderates events, sometimes enjoys making theater, and otherwise comes up with quite beautiful things. In fall 2018, her first book "Was dazwischen bleibt" was published. In 2019, she translated the debut novel by US poetry slammer Elizabeth Acevedo, "PoetX" .

Jule Weber

Jule Weber (*1993) lives and works in Bochum and is one of the leading voices of the German-speaking spoken word scene. She has been touring with her texts throughout the German-speaking world since 2009 and won both the Hessian and the German-speaking poetry slam championships in the U20 category in 2012, and in 2019 she was awarded the Tullyaward for best German-language poet.

She drinks too much black coffee, prefers to perform to jazz music, she moderates events and leads stage and writing workshops for young people.
She can also be seen together with Yannick Steinkellner as the spoken word team "Lingitz&Puchert".

Finn Holitzka

Finn Holitzka (born 1995) is a presenter, lyricist and cultural journalist for a major regional newspaper in Rhineland-Palatinate. Since 2014, he has been performing at the scene's best-known slams between Hamburg's Zeisekino and Munich's Substanz Club. He lives at the foot of Ehrenbreitstein Fortress in Koblenz.

Hinnerk Köhn

Hinnerk Köhn is in his mid-20s and alone.
When he's not sadly drinking in the shared kitchen he does stand up comedy about alcohol, addiction, love and suicide. It sounds sad, but it's funny. The embarrassments of his life, his youth in the Schleswig-Holstein periphery and Oldesloer Doppelkorn formed a mixture of Heinz Strunk, Moritz Neumeier and the melancholic songs of AnnenMayKantereit. His transfigured view of the world in combination with his penchant for romanticism result in a tragicomic body of work about which one is always a little worried. He also has the podcast "Normale Möwe" together with Max Scharff.

Veronika Rieger

Veronika Rieger, born in 1995, stood on stage for the first time in 2016 with her own lyrics, meanwhile she performs with her lyrics in the German-speaking and international area.

She lives in Berlin, where she is firmly rooted in the Berlin scene as a poet and organizer of the Rosi and Tempelslam. Besides the stage she studies theology and is involved in the SLAM ALPHAS and TINte for queer and feminist causes in the slam scene.

Andy Strauß

Andy Strauß is a jack of all trades when it comes to artistic expression. Whether at techno festivals as DJ Technojesus, at world music events as Bulgur Bulgogi or at poetry slams as himself: He always cuts a figure. Whether this is good or not – secondary. It's the attempt that counts.

Isabell Sterner

Isabell Sterner, born in Schweinfurt in 2001, has been studying fine arts at the Dresden University of Fine Arts since 2020. In addition to artistic work in painting and sculpture, she devotes herself to writing and poetry performances. Since 2018 she can be found on German-speaking international poetry slam stages in solo as well as team "Schluss jetzt, Lisabeth".
