For World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10, 2021, the Museum of Sepulchral Culture invites you to the opening of the exhibition Suizid – Let's talk about it!

With this exhibition, the museum will become a place for talking and sharing about suicide and suicidality in our society for six months. Contemporary artistic as well as cultural and social history exhibits will provide a frame of reference in the exhibition for the phenomena surrounding these stigmatized and often hushed topics. Through commentaries on the artistic works, voices of those affected, and content-related research, the museum is also seeking, with the publication of the same name, a way to find a new language for approaching suicide and suicidality, while not losing sight of the connecting experiential horizons of pain, grief, silence, and humor.

The museum is supported in this endeavor by the head of the National Suicide Prevention Program (NaSPro), Prof. Dr. Reinhard Lindner (Institute for Social Work, University of Kassel), as well as by other national and international cooperation partners in the fields of culture and research.

The exhibition will be accompanied by weekly events.

Welttag der Suizidprävention

Die Eröffnung fand nicht zufällig am 10. September statt. Denn der 10. September ist der jährliche Welttag der Suizidprävention und ein wichtiger Tag für Betroffene und unsere Gesellschaft.

Jedes Jahr werden zu diesem besonderen Anlass um 20 Uhr Kerzen in die Fenster oder an öffentliche Plätze gestellt, die an die Suizidopfer, an das Leid der Angehörigen und Freund*innen und auch das Schweigen in der Gesellschaft gemahnen und zum Gedenken aufrufen.

Eine Angehörige der AGUS-Ortsgruppe Kassel hat mit uns unsere Bienenwachskerze entzündet, die das ganze Wochenende über brennen und an Trauer und Schmerz, aber auch Möglichkeiten der Unterstützung erinnern durfte. Diese besondere Kerze hat uns das Team vom Kasseler Stadthonig gegossen: für warmes Licht zu diesem Anlass!

AGUS steht für Angehörige um Suizid und ist ein bundesweit vertretener Selbsthilfeverein, in dem Angehörige, die jemanden durch Suizid verloren haben, Menschen mit ähnlichen Erfahrungen treffen und sich austauschen können.
