We invite you to the opening of the new special exhibition!
Money and death have one thing in common: people are discouraged from talking about them – at least if the conversation is to remain light and innocuous. On September 25th, we will be opening the third update of our ongoing special exhibition "Inbetween. You, Life and Finiteness". Entitled "What does death cost?", this edition focuses on the price of the last things.
From 5.30 p.m.: Children's Vernissage RABE, MOTTE, SENSENMANN?
It is often children who find an unadulterated and unburdened language when it comes to death. Wait a minute – ‘death’? What does it actually look like? People have always asked themselves this question, and there have been many attempts to give death a face. What does death look like to you? Artist Aliaa Abou Khaddour invites you to a workshop!
The workshop is free of charge and you can join in at any time.
7 p.m.: Opening
After a welcome adress by museum director Dr Dirk Pörschmann, we're looking forward to welcoming Kassel's Lord Mayor Dr Sven Schoeller and Minister of State Timon Gremmels. Curator Tatjana Ahle-Rosental will then give an introduction to the exhibition. The opening evening will be accompanied by music from singer-songwriter Nicole Jukic.
Nicole Jukic performs solo programmes and is an award-winning singer in various formations. She received the Kassel Art Prize in 2010. In 2021, she received two awards at the German Pop Foundation's Rock and Pop Awards. She lives with her family in Kassel.
Following the opening, we invite you to enjoy wine, water and conversation.
What will you be wearing on your final journey?
How do you picture death?
Who pays for the last things?
How much does an urn, a coffin, an entire funeral cost?
How can a museum help you with these questions?
And what is the next step in the renovation of the Museum of Sepulchral Culture?
The Museum of Sepulchral Culture has been dedicated to the topics of dying, death, burial, mourning and remembrance for over 30 years. In 2027, it will be temporarily closed, remodelled and renovated. The goal: a new permanent exhibition. In the meantime, until the reopening, we are now focussing on current developments, content and questions. We want to find new exhibits and present existing exhibits in such a way that they can also tell your story.
With inbetween. You, life and finiteness, we are preparing our new permanent exhibition. Since the opening of this special temporary exhibition, we have already received exciting responses from you. In the new update, we invite you to help shape and get involved. Discover exhibits from the fine and applied arts as well as cultural-historical objects. Immerse yourself in topics of sepulchral culture and take a stand on them. You won't be alone: the programme includes lectures, discussions, readings and artistic interventions – for children and adults alike.
Come along to our field of experimentation.
It's about you, your life and finiteness.
