Making someone cry who doesn't want to but has to. We need so little. My mum, girl in May. I scatter your ashes like notes on paper. The dead captain can't speed up the journey. Look at me, in all my shittiness. I hope you laugh at me for being so sad.  Breathe under water. We are never where we are. You make me a sandwich. You wave back: that's happiness. We dance love.’

Enrique Keil has enjoyed living in Kassel since 2008. He is a husband, father, actor, director, author and singer. From 2008-2021 he was an actor at the Staatstheater Kassel. In 2025 he will complete his master's degree in rhetoric and communication.

‘Happiness always has to do with people’

Actor Enrique Keil celebrates the premiere of his new programme ‘Glück. Finally’ premieres at the Museum for Sepulchral Culture

Enrique, what does happiness mean to you? 

Enrique Keil: My happiness is simple and invisible and always has to do with people.

Do you have a special relationship with finiteness? 

Death and the fact that everything can change from one day to the next is part of my DNA. That's why I'm grateful and in a good mood when things don't turn out that way!

Why the MSK as a venue? 

The reason for returning to the Sepulkralmuseum was, of course, the very positive reception of the last song recital ‘Songs for my dead’. The MSK is not a place where people meet to chat. It's about everything, you talk about things.

What was your inspiration for the programme, all of whose lyrics were written by yourself?

The moving reaction of the audience was also the inspiration for this evening: because what's the point of all this if it's not for the people? There are people who want content. You can share it well if you understand the language. I've always made music. But not in German and no chansons. I have no idea how it will turn out. I'm in good spirits because I'm doing my best.
