Muslim burials in cemeteries in Germany

Online-Seminar

Many people of the Muslim faith who die in Germany are still transferred for burial to countries from which an earlier generation immigrated. One reason for this is German burial law, which is difficult to reconcile with a large proportion of Muslim burial rites. This concerns, for example, the wish for a coffinless burial, the wish for a burial within one day, the wish to dig the grave oneself and for eternal rest for the grave. However, more and more Islamic burial grounds are now being set up in cemeteries in Germany to give people of the Muslim faith the opportunity – at least to a large extent – to be buried according to the rules of their religion, and a first Islamic cemetery has been initiated. Cemetery administrators are challenged to make the coexistence of different cultures compatible for all concerned. In the seminar, Islamic burial grounds and related facilities in the cemeteries of the participants will be presented and discussed with regard to social, economic, cultural-design and legal aspects.

The seminar is aimed at cemetery office managers, cemetery employees and morticians.

Since the attention in front of the screen usually wears off faster than in personal contact, the seminar is spread over four mornings. In the individual seminar units, participants will have the opportunity to present Islamic burial grounds in their own cemeteries, as well as sufficient space for questions and discussions.

The event will be conducted with the conference software Webex. Prerequisite for participation is an internet compatible device with camera and microphone.
You will receive the access link at the latest one day before the seminar.
