Designers Model The farewell

Products and utensils around the creation of the last journey and the funeral are not subject to fashion - one thinks. But many of those affected and their relatives no longer feel at home in the traditional and alternatives often seem difficult to find. Yet, the choice of funeral products is anything but a routine matter - and in an emergency, there is a lack of time and energy to deal intensively with the formal details of saying goodbye or to think about alternative funeral rituals.

Thoughts like these provided the impetus for the exhibition "DERNIER CRI – Designers Model the Farewell". More than fifty designers from Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and Switzerland present objects and innovative concepts, which in their form and handling respond to current wishes and necessities in a bereavement: Mourning cards and condolence books, coffins, catafalques, coffin cloths, coffin linen and pall cloths as well as mourning jewelry, urns, memorial signs for the cemetery and at home up to "dual use" – products that are also, but not exclusively, suitable for funeral purposes.
