Cabinet Exhibition
Felix Pestemer's album "Der Staub der Ahnen" (The Dust of the Ancestors), nominated as best German-language comic album for the Max and Moritz Prize 2012, lives entirely from the Día de los Muertos’ cheerful and morbid atmosphere. At the Museum for Sepulchral Culture, the Berlin-based illustrator presents 40 original graphics and objects that he collected during his research stay in Mexico in 2005 where he began the research for his graphic novel "Dust of the Ancestors". “Dust of the Ancestors” went into print in 2011 and has since been translated into several languages.
Mayan masks, skulls, stained glass windows: Mexico's idiosyncratic amalgam of cultures jumps out at the viewer directly from the papers. The graphics are of outstanding design and, with their reflections on death and memory, cross the boundaries of the comic medium.
The exhibition took place on the occasion of the Día de los Muertos, which has been an integral part of the museum program for several years and brings together hundreds of visitors.
