Immediate programme for corona-related investments in cultural institutions

The Bundesverband Soziokultur e.V. is the project management agency within the framework of the BKM support program NEUSTART (Restart) for cultural centers, literature houses and socio-cultural centers.

The programme NEUSTART aims at a new beginning of cultural life in Germany in times of Corona and afterwards. Cultural institutions throughout Germany are to be supported in resuming their programmes and activities. Minister of State Grütters explains: "With the funds for Corona-related reconstruction measures, we want to make the cultural institutions fit again for operation under pandemic conditions. This will secure jobs and give us all a perspective for a return to cultural life. With the NEUSTART aid, we are giving culture the place it deserves in our everyday lives as the core of our society. With big steps we want to lead the cultural landscape in Germany towards more normality".

In particular, the funds will be used to implement investment protection measures that are and will continue to be necessary as a result of the restrictions imposed by the spread of the Covid 19 pandemic.

The past months have not only presented us with a major challenge. From one day to the next, it was no longer possible to visit permanent and special exhibitions. Our extensive event programme with lectures, symposia, concerts, exhibition openings and seminars had to be reduced to zero at out of a sudden. Normality is slowly returning, although the maximum number of visitors remains limited and many parts on the programme unfortunately cannot yet take place as planned. With the help of NEUSTART's support, we are now able to carry out new digital formats and continue our important work in the context of cultural education during Corona. We thank the sponsors of the programme and look forward to experiencing the new possibilities with our visitors!
