Grandma's cat is incredibly old. What's rather strange, though, is that she's looked different throughout her life. Is she perhaps a cat with nine lives? In any case, the cat plays a very important role for Grandma. She accompanies her through thick and thin and experiences many things from a cat's perspective. The cat—and of course Grandma too—was invented by the illustrator Nele Palmtag. She tells the story behind her illustrations, showing how such a story comes about using sketches and original artwork. Afterwards, we'll make our own dream pets together to take home.

Nele Palmtag initially trained as an occupational therapist before studying illustration in Bremen and Hamburg. She lives with her family in Hamburg and works as a freelance illustrator. She develops book concepts and creates illustrations for her own ideas and texts by other authors. She enjoys holding workshops and readings for children and educators. Many of her books have been translated and have received awards, most recently from the German Book Art Foundation.
