Interactive event becomes mini-exhibition
More than 3000 visitors found their way to the Museum of Sepulchral Culture during Museum Night 2026. Especially in the early evening, many families with children came – and quite a few four-legged friends joined them. As a result, countless animals were sculpted during the interactive activity "My Friend, the Rabbit ." Children and adults alike took part in the activity to remember their beloved pets who had passed away and to share their stories. A way of processing grief during Museum Night! After sculpting their own pet, visitors could record a memory via their mobile phones. In this way, they recounted shared experiences or left farewell messages. The sheer number of mementos is so vast that they will form part of the new update to the special exhibition " Where to Put the Dog?" With the opening on November 4, 2026, visitors can share in these stories and memories. Furthermore, they will have the opportunity to sculpt their own pet and make it a part of the exhibition.
The exhibition "Where to Put the Dog?" focuses on the changing relationship between humans and animals and the associated processes of saying goodbye and grieving. When a beloved animal friend dies, a space for mourning is essential. This special exhibition provides that space for our visitors – and contributes to ensuring that the need for this space for mourning is taken seriously.
