With Dr. Dirk Pörschmann
In the rotunda of the Museum of Sepulchral Culture, Rana Matloub presents older and newer works that deal with the themes of death, war and memory.
The theme of death has long been a part of her life, particularly due to the various wars. She experienced the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s in her birthplace, Baghdad. With the outbreak of the First Gulf War in 1990, she and her family came to Germany. She experienced this war and the Second Gulf War, beginning in 2003, from afar; nevertheless, the news reports deeply affected her – also because of her family members who remained in Iraq.
Dirk Pörschmann, head of the Museum for Sepulchral Culture, and the artist herself will lead a tour through the cabinet exhibition “ Don’t dig holes next to the graves ” this Wednesday .
