Suicide – Let's talk about it!

How does one plan an exhibition on a topic on which traditionally people prefer to remain silent and where images and legacies are either painfully sensationalized by the media or fearfully hidden? What remains to be shown and which topics and groups are to be addressed? The fact that suicide contains a trigger danger, that reporting on it can also force suicides if not handled properly, is the fine line on which the exhibition on suicide, which took place in the Museum for Sepulchral Culture in Kassel (09/2021 – 04/2022), also moved.
The knowledge about the dangers and at the same time about the suicide-preventive effect of informing and speaking about it required a long and intensive preparation with many cooperation partners – for example from the fields of science as well as help or self-help groups. The fruitful way to an extraordinary exhibition will be traced in this lecture.
