Unforgotten

A temporary grave appropriation

Book presentation and talk with Christiane Rath

I have "appropriated" someone else's grave. It is overgrown, no one takes care of it for at least two years. Why not? Is there no one left or is there someone who can't come? There are many such graves in many cemeteries.

Excerpt from UNFORGOTTEN

The Cologne artist and author Christiane Rath not only weeded during her 18-month grave care, but also experienced an inner transformation to the foreign family. She searched her imagination for reasons for the son's early death at 17, the mother's non-appearance on the cross provided for her, the possible feelings of the father who outlived his son by almost 30 years.

The project became a discovery of one's own approach to life and death, remembering and forgetting, and to telling true and untrue stories.

After the multimedia book presentation, there will be an opportunity for a lively exchange with the participants.

Christiane Rath is an installation artist, photographer, and writer based in Cologne, Germany. She builds nests of people and living situations in major German cities, exhibits her work internationally, and volunteers for the Cologne street newspaper "Draussenseiter".
