Posters for Suicide Prevention

Posters of the Hegelsberg School Kassel on suicide prevention

In support/cooperation with the Museum for Sepulchral Culture in Kassel, students of two classes of the 10th grade of the Hegelsberg School dealt with the creation of posters on suicide prevention in art lessons. The visit of the exhibition "Suizid – Let's talk about it!", which was shown from September 11, 2021 - April 4, 2022 at the Museum served as an impulse. The museum educator and deputy director of the Museum led a guided tour in which posters, especially the last station of the exhibition, which was dedicated to suicide prevention, among other things, were examined according to their structure and content. In creating the posters, the students were not given any rules, so that each and every one was allowed an individual approach and an individual examination of the topic of suicide.

This individual diversity was evident in the results, as the students took different approaches. Some worked from a personal point of view and made posters in which they depicted what could help themselves. Others incorporated wordplay into their posters. The personal approach to one's own mortality and mental state also found a place in the motifs of the posters.
