Figurative representations on gravestones

Their size alone makes figurative representations eye-catchers during tours of cemeteries. In addition, they captivate viewers through their gestures, in which actions are implied that suggest the telling of stories. In the seminar, the history of figurative representations on gravestones will be discussed in theory and practice and, during a tour of Kassel's main cemetery, the motifs of mourners, angels and Thanatos will be examined in particular. In addition, their staging on the grave and in the cemetery will be discussed as well as sculpture techniques and manufacturing processes.

The day seminar is aimed at guest, city and cemetery guides.
